Ghana is unusual among USCIS source countries: English is its sole official language, so birth, marriage, death, and court records are issued in English from the start. That means a word-for-word translation is often unnecessary — what applicants actually need is a certified true-copy transcription of faint, handwritten, or water-damaged register entries, plus certification of any indigenous-language names (Twi, Ewe, Ga, Dagbani) or non-English stamps and marginal notes. Older Births and Deaths Registry certificates were completed by hand and can be nearly illegible once scanned, while newer records are computer-printed with serial numbers. Ghana is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so its documents cannot be apostilled; where a receiving authority requires legalization, the record is first authenticated by Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Accra and then legalized by the destination country's embassy (the U.S. Embassy in Accra for U.S. use). For USCIS filings this consular chain is generally not required — USCIS asks only for a legible copy plus a certified English translation of any non-English content.
